Job Title: Factory Head - Cashew Processing

Location: Owo, Ondo

Department: Manufacturing / Operations

Reports To: SD/MD/GMD

Job Description

Purpose of the Role:

  • To provide strategic and operational leadership in the efficient and profitable running of a cashew nut processing factory.
  • The role covers management of the full processing cycle including roasting, shelling, drying, peeling, grading, packing, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management:

  • Plan and manage end-to-end cashew processing activities to meet output and quality targets.
  • Coordinate daily production schedules, labor allocation, and machine utilization.
  • Monitor key process parameters and enforce adherence to SOPs.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure product quality meets domestic and export market standards.
  • Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and food safety norms.
  • Conduct internal audits and prepare for external regulatory or customer audits (e.g., NAFDAC, SMETA,SON,HALAAL,BRC,KOSHER,ISO).

Equipment & Process Oversight:

  • Supervise operation and maintenance of machines used for shelling, peeling, drying, grading, and packaging.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance with engineering/maintenance teams.

Manpower Management:

  • Supervise production supervisors, operators, sorters, and packaging teams.
  • Provide training and enforce safety, hygiene, and operational discipline.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and teamwork.

Inventory & Raw Material Handling:

  • Oversee raw cashew nut intake, drying, and storage processes.
  • Track usage of consumables, packaging materials, and monitor wastage levels.
  • Work with procurement and warehouse to ensure optimal material flow.

Cost & Efficiency Optimization:

  • Monitor cost per kg of processed nuts and identify opportunities for savings.
  • Implement lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
  • Track KPIs such as yield recovery, labor efficiency, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Coordination & Reporting:

  • Coordinate with finance, logistics, HR, procurement, and sales teams for seamless operations.
  • Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly production and performance reports.

Job Specification

Educational Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. / B.Tech in Food Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field.
  • Certifications in Food Safety, HACCP, or Industrial Management – preferred.

Experience:

  • 8–10 years of experience in agro-processing or food manufacturing.
  • At least 3–5 years in a senior factory management or production head role.
  • Direct experience in cashew, nut, or seed processing is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Thorough knowledge of cashew processing stages: steaming, cutting, drying, peeling, grading, and packing.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills across multiple shifts.
  • Familiarity with food safety, labor, and environmental regulations.
  • Good understanding of machine operations and maintenance planning.
  • Proficiency in production software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
