Job Purpose

The Laboratory Manager is fully responsible for the management, performance, compliance, and profitability of the laboratory. The role ensures technical excellence, regulatory compliance, staff development, and alignment with company standards and client requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Leadership

  • Lead and oversee the laboratory fit-out process, ensuring premises are fully compliant with regulatory, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Manage the planning, installation, commissioning, and validation of laboratory equipment in coordination with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure readiness of the laboratory for accreditation, operations, and client use following completion of fit-out and equipment installation.
  • Track timelines, budgets, and technical specifications, escalating risks or delays to regional or country management as required.
  • Lead and manage all laboratory operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Set operational goals, KPIs, and performance targets aligned with regional objectives.
  • Ensure consistent service delivery and client satisfaction.


Quality Management & Accreditation

  • Maintain ISO 17025 accreditation and ensure full compliance with quality systems.
  • Lead internal audits, management reviews, and external accreditation assessments.
  • Approve final test reports and ensure technical validity.

People & Performance Management

  • Recruit, train, develop, and manage laboratory staff.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, competency assessments, and disciplinary actions where necessary.
  • Foster a high-performance, safety-driven culture.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full adherence to HSE regulations and company safety standards.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Financial & Resource Control

  • Manage laboratory budgets, consumables, and operational costs.
  • Optimize resource utilization and support cost-efficiency initiatives.
  • Support capital expenditure planning for equipment and upgrades.

Stakeholder & Client Coordination

  • Liaise with Commercial, Operations, and Clients on technical matters.
  • Support client visits, technical discussions, and dispute resolution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 8–12 years of laboratory experience, with 3–5 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong experience in oil, petroleum, or chemical testing environments.
  • Proven experience managing ISO 17025 accredited laboratories.
