Job Summary

  • The Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, troubleshooting and repair of water supply, drainage, sanitary, sewage and related plumbing systems in residential, commercial, industrial and construction environments.
  • The role requires the plumber to work from technical drawings, specifications and site instructions, ensuring that all plumbing works are completed safely, accurately, efficiently and in accordance with approved designs, quality standards, building requirements and project timelines.
  • The Plumber is also responsible for identifying plumbing defects, preventing water leakage and wastage, maintaining plumbing equipment and ensuring that completed installations are properly tested and handed over.


Responsibilities

Plumbing Installation:

  • Install water supply and distribution systems.
  • Install cold and hot-water piping systems.
  • Install drainage and waste-water systems.
  • Install soil and waste pipes.
  • Install sanitary fittings and fixtures.
  • Install water tanks and associated pipework.
  • Install pumps and plumbing connections where required.
  • Install valves, taps, mixers and control devices.
  • Install water closets, wash-hand basins, sinks, showers and other sanitary fittings.
  • Install external and internal plumbing systems.
  • Install underground and above-ground pipework.
  • Connect plumbing systems to approved water supply and drainage networks.
  • Install pipes using appropriate materials and joining methods.


The Plumber shall be able to:

  • Read basic plumbing drawings.
  • Interpret pipe layouts.
  • Identify pipe sizes and specifications.
  • Understand plumbing symbols.
  • Follow approved installation details.
  • Identify water supply routes.
  • Identify drainage routes.
  • Interpret levels and gradients.
  • Follow project specifications.
  • Work according to instructions from the Plumbing Supervisor/Site Engineer.


The plumber must not make unauthorized changes to approved plumbing designs:

  • Measure and mark pipe routes accurately.
  • Cut pipes to required dimensions.
  • Prepare pipe ends for connection.
  • Join pipes using appropriate methods.
  • Install pipe supports and brackets.
  • Maintain appropriate pipe gradients.
  • Ensure proper alignment of pipework.
  • Install expansion provisions where required.
  • Protect pipes from physical damage.
  • Ensure pipework is properly secured.
  • Prevent unnecessary bends and restrictions in pipe routes.
  • Ensure joints are properly sealed.
  • Install drainage pipes and fittings.
  • Ensure proper drainage gradients.
  • Install floor drains and gullies.
  • Install inspection chambers/manholes as instructed.
  • Connect sanitary appliances to drainage systems.
  • Install waste-water systems.
  • Identify and clear drainage blockages.
  • Conduct drainage testing.
  • Ensure drainage systems are properly ventilated where required.
  • Identify and rectify drainage leaks and defects.
  • Install water supply pipework.
  • Connect water storage systems.
  • Install water pumps and associated connections.
  • Install isolation valves and control valves.
  • Test water pressure.
  • Check for leaks.
  • Repair damaged water lines.
  • Maintain water distribution systems.
  • Ensure adequate water flow to connected fixtures.
  • Identify pressure-related plumbing problems.
  • Repairing leaking pipes.
  • Replacing damaged pipes.
  • Repairing faulty taps.
  • Repairing or replacing valves.
  • Repairing water closets.
  • Repairing blocked drains.
  • Replacing damaged fittings.
  • Repairing water tanks.
  • Repairing pump connections.
  • Clearing blocked waste pipes.
  • Repairing drainage systems.
  • Replacing worn-out components.


Salary

N100,000 – N150,000 Monthly.
