Job Title: Senior Business Development Manager - Oil & Energy (Reinsurance: Treaty / Facultative / Placement / Claims Follow-Up)

Job Description

• We are a licensed insurance company seeking an experienced professional to lead business development and technical execution of reinsurance solutions within the Oil & Energy sector.
• This role is focused on driving treaty and facultative placements, client relationship management, and claims coordination, specifically tailored to the needs of oil and gas operators, contractors, and their risk portfolios across the energy value chain (upstream, midstream, downstream, and renewables).

Responsibilities

• Business Development: Identify and secure reinsurance opportunities from insurers, oil & gas corporates, and related government or commercial entities.
• Program Structuring: Design and negotiate treaty and facultative reinsurance programs for complex energy risks, including proportional and excess-of-loss structures.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare reinsurance slips, renewal documents, pricing models, and technical presentations for clients and markets.
• Reinsurance Market Engagement: Work with domestic and international reinsurers to obtain capacity and negotiate placement terms.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all transactions and documentation adhere to local regulatory standards and industry best practices.
• International Coordination: Support internationally scoped reinsurance placements and cross-border transactions when required.
• Claims Management: Facilitate claims reporting and follow-up with reinsurers to ensure timely recovery and resolution.
• Portfolio Monitoring: Track renewals, market trends, and claims performance to improve placement strategies and client outcomes.
• Relationship Management: Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, reinsurers, brokers, and industry stakeholders.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Petroleum Engineering, Risk Management, Business, or a related field.
• Certifications: CIIN or equivalent reinsurance/insurance qualification preferred.
• Experience:
• 5 – 7 years in insurance or reinsurance roles, with demonstrable experience in Oil & Energy risk placement.
• Familiarity with both treaty and facultative arrangements, slip preparation, and market negotiations.
• Working knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks within the insurance sector.

Core Competencies:

• Deep technical understanding of energy sector risk exposures.
• Strong knowledge of reinsurance structures (Proportional, XoL, Facultative, Aggregate).
• Strong analytical and portfolio management skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital document handling tools.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong ethics and attention to regulatory detail.

Preferred Profile:

• Strong industry network among oil & gas operators, energy service companies, and commercial insurers.
• Demonstrated ability to convert leads into profitable reinsurance mandates.
• Familiarity with niche energy insurance products such as upstream control-of-well, political risk cover, and renewable energy guarantees.

Salary

N1,200,000 - 1,500,000 Monthly.
